January 30, 2007 Game 51: Devils Lose 4-5 To Thrashers (Shootout)
The New Jersey Devils lost 4-5 in a shootout to the Thrashers in
Atlanta on Tuesday, January 30, 2007.
Ilya Kovalchuk beat Martin Brodeur with a power-play goal at 7:54
of the first period to give Atlanta a 1-0 lead. Kovalchuk scored another
power-play goal at 11:50 to increase the Thrashers lead.
Brian Gionta scored a power-play goal at 15:04 to cut Atlanta's
lead to one goal. Gionta's 24th goal of the season was assisted by
Jamie Langenbrunner and Scott Gomez.
The Devils outshot the Thrashers 15-8 in the first period, which
ended with Atlanta leading 2-1.
Patrik Elias tied the game with a power-play goal just 33 seconds
into the second period. Brian Rafalski and Jamie Langenbrunner assisted
on Elias' 17th goal of the season.
Zach Parise scored the first even strength goal of the game,
beating Kari Lehtonen at 7:23. Jamie Langenbrunner and Brian Rafalski
assisted on Parise's 18th goal of the season.
Niclas Havelid tied the game with a goal at 14:29 of the second
period.
The Thrashers outshot the Devils 12-11 in the second period,
which ended with the score tied, 3-3.
Glen Metropolit beat Martin Brodeur with a power-play goal 1:19
into the third period to give Atlanta a 4-3 lead.
John Madden tied the game at 9:38, putting a great pass from
Sergei Brylin in the net. Brylin was credited with the only assist on
Madden's seventh goal of the season.
Regulation time ended with the game tied, 4-4, sending the game
to overtime. There was no scoring in the overtime, forcing a
shootout.
