February 01, 2007 Game 52: Devils Beat Flyers: 6-5 (Overtime)
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Flyers 6-5 in Philadelphia in
overtime on Thursday, February 1, 2007.
Ben Eager gave the Flyers an early 1-0 lead with a goal that beat
Martin Brodeur 2:22 into the first period.
Travis Zajac beat Antero Niittymaki at 5:16 to tie the game,
1-1. Zach Parise and Brad Lukowich assisted on Zajac's ninth goal of the
season.
The shots were even, 8-8 in the first period, which ended with
the score tied, 1-1.
Mike Knuble beat Martin Brodeur at 2:19 of the second period on a
power-play to give Philadelphia a 2-1 lead.
Zajac scored his second goal of the game at 8:17 on a power-play
to tie the game, 2-2. Zajac's goal was assisted by Scott Gomez and
Patrik Elias.
Patrik Elias gave the Devils their first lead of the game with a
goal at 11:52. Elias' 18th goal of the season was assisted by Scott
Gomez and Brian Gionta.
The Devils outshot the Flyers 12-8 in the second period, which
ended with the Devils leading, 3-2.
Dimitry Afanasenkov scored at 2:52 of the third period to tie the
game, 3-3. Knuble gave the Flyers a 4-3 lead with a power-play goal at
11:16.
Just 40 seconds after Knuble's goal, Jamie Langenbrunner blasted
the puck past Niittymaki to tie the game, 4-4. David Hale was credited
with the only assist on Langenbrunner's 17th goal of the season.
Peter Forsberg scored at 15:50 to give the Flyers a 5-4
lead.
Zach Parise tied the game with just 32 seconds remaining in
regulation time to force overtime. Jamie Langenbrunner assisted on
Parise's 19th goal of the season.
Brad Lukowich tipped the puck into the net with 50 seconds
remaining in the overtime to win the game for New Jersey. Lukowich's
third goal of the season was assisted by Brian Rafalski and Patrik
Elias.
