April 12, 2007 R1 Game 1: Devils Off To Good Start - Defeat Lightning 5-3
The New Jersey Devils took a 1-0 Eastern Conference Quarter
Finals lead with a 5-3 win at home over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday,
April 12, 2007.
Zach Parise beat Johan Holmqvist at 7:43 of the first period to
give New Jersey a 1-0 lead. Parise's first goal of the post-season was
scored unassisted.
Patrik Elias scored a power-play goal at 12:41 to make it a 2-0
Devils lead. Scott Gomez and Brian Rafalski assisted on Elias' first
goal of the playoffs.
Martin St. Louis beat Martin Brodeur at 15:55 on a 5 on 3
power-play to cut the Devils lead to 1 goal.
The first period ended with the Devils leading 2-1. New
Jersey outshot Tampa Bay 10-6 in the period.
Brian Rafalski scored at 3:36 of the second period on a
power-play to make it 3-1 Devils. Rafalski's first goal of the playoffs
was assisted by Scott Gomez and Jamie Langenbrunner.
Vincent Lecavalier scored at 11:46 to cut the Devils lead to one
goal.
The shots were even, 7-7 in the second period, which ended with
New Jersey leading 3-2.
Lecavalier scored his second goal of the game 2:51 into the third
period to tie the game, 3-3.
Zach Parise regained the Devils lead with a goal just 1:03 after
Lecavalier's goal. Jamie Langenbrunner assisted on Parise's second goal
of the game.
Brian Gionta sealed the win with a goal at 18:38, giving the
Dvils a 5-3 lead. Scott Gomez and Patrik Elias assisted on Gionta's
first goal of the playoffs.
