The New Jersey Devils shutout the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-0 at home
for Game 5 of Round 1 of the 2007 Stanley Cup Playoffs on Friday, April 20,
2007. The Devils lead the best-of-seven series 3 games to 2.
Andy Greene scored his first career playoff goal, beating Johan
Holmqvist at 12:46 to give the Devils a 1-0 lead. Mike Rupp and Scott
Gomez assisted on the goal.
The Lightning outshot the Devils 8-5 in the first period, but the
Devils led 1-0 on the scoreboard.
Brian Gionta gave the Devils a 2-0 lead with a goal at 9:59 of
the second period. Scott Gomez and Brian Rafalski assisted on Gionta's
third goal of the post-season.
The second period ended with the Devils leading the Lightning
2-0. The Lightning outshot the Devils 14-7 in the second period.
Scott Gomez sealed the win with an empty net goal with just 1:47
remaining in the third period. Patrik Elias assisted on Gomez's second
goal of the playoffs.
