May 05, 2007 R2 Game 5: Senators Eliminate Devils With 3-2 Win in NJ
The New Jersey Devils lost to the Ottawa Senators 2-3 in New
Jersey for Game 5 of Round 2 of the 2007 Stanley Cup Playoffs on Saturday, May
5, 2007. The loss knocked the Devils out of the playoffs.
Scott Gomez scored his third goal of the playoffs, beating Ray
Emery at 6:59 of the first period. Patrik Elias and Paul Martin assisted
on the goal, which gave the Devils a 1-0 lead.
The Devils outshot the Senators 11-3 in the first period, which
ended with New Jersey leading, 1-0.
Antoine Vermette beat Martin Brodeur 5:19 into the second period
to tie the game, 1-1. Jason Spezza gave Ottawa their first lead of the
game with a power-play goal at 12:06. Daniel Alfredsson made it a 3-1
Senators lead with a goal at 17:28.
The second period came to a close with Ottawa leading, 3-1.
The Senators outshot the Devils 19-9 in the period.
Scott Gomez gave the Devils hope with a late goal - just 40
seconds remaining in regulation time. Gomez's second goal of the game
was assisted by John Madden and Zach Parise.
Patrik Elias led all skaters with 10 shots on goal in the game.
The Devils outshot the Senators 9-2 in the third period and 29-24 in
the game.
