October 04, 2007 Game 1: Devils Lose 1-3 to Lightning
The New Jersey Devils opened the 2007-2008 NHL season with a 1-3
loss to the Lightning in Tampa Bay on Thursday, October 4, 2007.
Brian Gionta gave the Devils their first goal of the season and a
1-0 lead with a power-play goal at 9:06 of the first period. Zach Parise
and Travis Zajac assisted on the goal that beat Tampa goaltender, Johan
Holmqvist.
The first period ended with the Devils leading the Lightning,
1-0. Tampa Bay outshot New Jersey 9-7 in the period.
Vincent Lecavalier beat Martin Brodeur at 9:35 of the second
period to tie the game, 1-1.
The score was tied, 1-1 at the end of the second period.
The Devils outshot the Lightning 13-6 in the period.
Lecavalier gave Tampa Bay their first lead of the game with his
second goal of the game at 16:08 of the third period. Vaclav Prospal
added an empty net goal to make it 3-1 Tampa.
The game ended with the Lightning winning, 3-1. Tampa
outshot the Devils 9-7 in the third period.
The Devils have begun the new season on a 9 game road trip.
They will open the new Prudential Center in Newark on Saturday, October 27,
when they host the Ottawa Senators at 7:00PM.
