December 07, 2007 Game 28: Devils Defeat Capitals 3-2 - Streak at 9
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Washington Capitals 3-2 at the
Prudential Center on Friday, December 7, 2007. The win extended their
winning streak to 9 games.
Vitaly Vishnevski beat Olaf Kolzig at 11:42 of the first period to
give the Devils a 1-0 lead. Vishnevski's first goal of the season was
scored unassisted.
Dainius Zubrus scored to make it a two goal Devils lead on a
power-play at 15:57. Zubrus' sixth goal of the season was assisted by
Brian Gionta and Patrik Elias.
The Devils outshot the Capitals 12-5 in the first period, which
ended with the Devils leading, 2-0.
The Capitals outshot the Devils 9-4 in the second period, but no
goals were scored.
Alexander Semin got Washington on the board with a goal that beat
Martin Brodeur at 5:48 of the third period.
Travis Zajac re-gained the two goal lead for New Jersey just 41
seconds after Semin's goal. Zajac's fifth goal of the season was
assisted by Sheldon Brookbank and Jamie Langenbrunner.
Brooks Laich gave the Caps hope with a goal at 18:43, but the
Devils were able to hold on to win the game, 3-2.
