December 21, 2007 Game 35: Devils Beat Oilers 3-1
The New Jersey Devils beat the Oilers 3-1 in Edmonton on Friday,
December 21, 2007.
Joni Pitkanen beat Martin Brodeur at 15:15 of the first period to
give the Oilers a 1-0 lead.
The Devils outshot the Oilers 9-8 in the first period, but
Edmonton led 1-0 in goals after the first 20 minutes.
Neither team scored in the second period, though the Devils
outshot the Oilers 12-2.
Patrik Elias tied the game with a goal at 5:00 of the third
period. Elias' seventh goal of the season was assisted by Brian
Gionta.
Brian Gionta beat Mathieu Garon just 35 seconds later to give the
Devils a 2-1 lead. Dainius Zubrus and Patrik Elias assisted on Gionta's
11th goal of the season.
An empty net goal from John Madden with 29 seconds remaining
capped the scoring.
