The New Jersey Devils rallied to defeat the Pittsburgh Penguins
4-3 in Overtime on Monday, February 4, 2008. The Devils now lead the
season series 4 games to 2.
The Penguins outshot the Devils 10-6 in the first period, but
neither netminder surrendered a goal in the first 20 minutes.
Ryan Malone beat Martin Brodeur 2:26 into the second period to
give the Penguins a 1-0 lead. Ex-Devil Petr Sykora made it 2-0 with a
goal at 11:50.
Jamie Langenbrunner got the Devils on the board with a power-play
goal at 19:18. Zach Parise and Patrik Elias assisted on Langenbrunner's
ninth goal of the season.
nbsp; The second period ended with the Penguins leading the Devils 2-1.
The Penguins outshot the Devils 14-8 in the period.
Jordan Staal gave Pittsburgh a two goal lead with a power-play
goal at 4:30 of the third period.
Patrik Elias cut the Penguins lead to one goal at 9:37.
Elias' 16th goal of the season was assisted by Zach Parise.
David Clarkson tied the game with a goal at 11:21. Johnny
Oduya and John Madden assisted on Clarkson's seventh goal of the season.
Regulation time ended with the game tied, 3-3. The shots
were even, 10-10 in the third period.
Zach Parise won the game for New Jersey with a goal just 37
seconds into the overtime period. Patrik Elias and Martin Brodeur
assisted on the game-winner - Parise's 20th goal of the season.
