February 24, 2008 Game 63: Devils Take Eastern Conference Lead, 2-1 OT Win over Capitals
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Capitals 2-1 in overtime in
Washington on Sunday, February 24, 2008.
The win gave the Devils sole possesion of first place in the
Eastern Conference. The Devils now lead the season series, 2-1.
There were no goals scored in the first period, in which the
Capitals outshot the Devils 15-6.
The second period also ended with the game still scoreless, with
the Capitals outshooting the Devils 13-4 in the second third.
Jamie Langenbrunner broke the scoreless tie with a 5 on 3
power-play goal just 39 seconds into the third period. Paul Martin and
Patrik Elias assisted on Langenbrunner's 11th goal of the season.
Alexander Semin tied the game with a goal that beat Martin
Brodeur at 2:46.
The Devils outshot the Capitals 18-10 in the third period, though
regulation time ended with the game tied, 1-1.
John Madden scored with just 50 seconds remaining in overtime to
win the game for New Jersey.
