March 11, 2008 Game 70: Habs Shutout Devils 4-0, Take 1st Place
The New Jersey Devils were shutout 4-0 by the Canadiens in
Montreal on Tuesday, March 11, 2008.
The Canadiens took a 1-0 lead when Bryan Smolinski beat Martin
Brodeur at 4:51 of the first period. Saku Koivu increased the Habs lead
with a goal at 18:28.
The first period came to a close with the Canadiens leading the
Devils 2-0. The Devils outshot the Canadiens 20-14 in the period.
Maxim Lapierre made it 3-0 Montreal with a goal at 14:20 of the
second period.
The Devils outshot the Canadiens 13-4 in the second period,
though Montreal led 3-0 after the first 40 minutes.
Michael Ryder capped the scoring with a goal that beat Brodeur at
17:39 of the third period.
The Canadiens outshot the Devils 15-5 in the third period.
