April 09, 2008 R1 G1: Rangers Beat Devils 4-1
The New Jersey Devils lost 1-4 at home against the New York
Rangers on Wednesday, April 9, 2008. The loss gives the Rangers a 1-0
Round 1 lead.
The shots were even in the first period - 8-8. Neither
team scored in the first twenty minutes of the game.
Brendan Shanahan beat Martin Brodeur just 1:45 into the second
period to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead.
The Devils tied the game when Paul Martin scored a power-play
goal that beat Henrik Lunqvist at 14:14. Patrik Elias and Zach Parise
assisted on Martin's first goal of the playoffs.
The second period ended with the game tied, 1-1. The
Rangers outshot the Devils 13-7 in the period.
Ryan Callahan took advantage of a poor play by Brodeur and put
the puck behind him for a shorthanded goal at 7:23 of the third period.
Sean Avery scored at 17:07 to make it a 2 goal Rangers lead. An
empty net goal from Dawes at 19:55 capped the scoring.
