November 23, 2008 Game 20: Zubrus Nets 4, Devils Smash Bolts, 7-3
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Lightning, 7-3 in Tampa Bay on
Sunday, November 23, 2008.
Mike Rupp scored his first goal of the season just 1:44 into the
first period. The goal that beat Olaf Kolzig was assisted by Anssi
Salmela and David Clarkson.
The Devils took a 2-0 lead with a goal from Zach Parise at 17:37.
Jay Leach and Anssi Salmela assisted on Parise's 13th goal of the
season.
The first period ended with New Jersey leading Tampa Bay, 2-0.
The Devils outshot the Lightning 15-6 in the period.
Dainius Zubrus scored 1:58 into the second period to give New
Jersey a 3-0 lead. Jamie Langenbrunner and Paul Martin assisted on
Zubrus' third goal of the season.
Zubrus scored again just 2:36 later to make it a four goal lead
for New Jersey. Zubrus' second goal of the game was assisted by Patrik
Elias and Colin White.
Brian Giona increased the Devils lead to a commanding 5-0 with a
goal at 11:39. The goal that sent Karri Ramo into the Lightning net in
relief of Kolzig was scored unassisted.
Radim Vrbata got the Lightning on the board with a goal that beat
Scott Clemmensen at 13:08 of the second period. Martin St. Louis scored
just 1:32 later to make it 5-2 New Jersey. Ryan Malone added to Penalty
Shot goal at 16:42 to cut the Devils lead to two goals.
The second period came to a close with the Devils leading 5-2.
The Devils outshot the Lightning 16-13 in the second period.
Dainius Zubrus took advantage of a breakaway, burying the puck
at 7:21 of the third period to complete a hat trick! Patrik Elias
assisted on Zubrus' fifth goal of the season.
Zubrus scored his fourth goal of the game at 14:38 with assists
from Brian Gionta and Patrik Elias.
The Devils outshot the Lightning 14-10 in the third period and
45-29 in the game.
