Game 29: Devils Beat Sabres 5-3

    The New Jersey Devils beat the Sabres 5-3 in Buffalo on Wednesday, December 17, 2008.

    Travis Zajac gave the Devils an early lead with a goal that beat Ryan Miller at 1:36 of the first period.   Mike Mottau and Jamie Langenbrunner assisted on Zajac's eighth goal of the season.

    Drew Stafford beat Scott Clemmensen at 6:58 to tie the game, 1-1.

    Number 18 of the season for Zach Parise came on a power-play at 11:44.   Jamie Langenbrunner and Patrik Elias assisted on the goal.

    The Devils outshot the Sabres 17-9 in the first period, which ended with New Jersey leading 2-1.

    Bryce Salvador scored at 10:52 of the second period to give the Devils a 2 goal lead.   Salvador's second of the season was assisted by Patrik Elias and Brian Gionta.

    Patrick Kaleta scored for Buffalo just 18 seconds after Salvador's goal to get the Sabres back within one goal.

    The Sabres outshot the Devils 11-6 in the second period, and trailed 2-3 at the end of 40 minutes of play.

    David Clarkson scored an unassisted goal at 6:04 of the third period.   The goal was his sixth of the season.

    Brian Rolston beat Miller at 9:31 to give New Jersey a 5-2 lead.   Rolston's second goal of the season was assisted by David Clarkson.

    Another quick goal for Buffalo came from Paul Gaustad just 12 seconds after Rolston's goal.
