Game 30: Devils Snow Senators 5-1

    The New Jersey Devils defeated the Ottawa Senators 5-1 at the Prudential Center on Friday, December 19, 2008.

    Brian Gionta got the Devils off to a quick start by beating Alex Auld just 40 seconds into the first period.   Paul Martin and Patrik Elias assisted on Gionta's ninth goal of the season.

    Johnny Oduya added a power-play goal at 14:28 to gave the Devils a 2 goal lead.   Zach Parise and Patrik Elias assisted on Oduya's third.

    The Devils led 2-0 at the end of the first 20 minutes of play.   The Devils outshot the Senators 7-3 in the period.

    Jarkko Ruutu beat Scott Clemmensen short-handed at 8:37 of the second period to get Ottawa on the board.

    Patrik Elias scored a power-play goal with 54 seconds remaining in the second period to regain the two goal lead for New Jersey.   Travis Zajac and Zach Parise assisted on Elias' 14th goal of the season.

    The second period ended with New Jersey leading 3-1.   The Devils outshot the Sens 11-10 in the period.

    Travis Zajac scored at 12:09 of the third period to make it a four goal lead for New Jersey.   Jamie Langenbrunner and Zach Parise assisted on the ninth goal of the season for Zajac.

    Patrik Elias scored his second power-play goal of the game at 14:39.   Zach Parise and Paul Martin assisted on the goal.
