January 08, 2009 Game 40: Poor Performance Leads to 4-0 Shutout
The New Jersey Devils were shutout 4-0 at home by the Atlanta
Thrashers on Thursday, January 8, 2009.
The Thrashers outshot the Devils 9-6 in the first period, though
neither team was able to register a goal in the first 20 minutes of
play.
Colby Armstrong beat Scott Clemmensen 3:03 into the second period
to give the Thrashers a 1-0 lead. Ilya Kovalchuk added a power-play goal
just 2:28 later to increase Atlanta's lead. Jim Slater made it 3-0 with
a goal at 14:00.
The second period ended with Atlanta leading 3-0. The
Devils outshot the Thashers 13-10 in the second period.
Kevin Weekes started in goal for New Jersey at the start of the
thrd period and surrendered a goal on the first shot he faced, from Marty
Reasoner.
