January 16, 2009 Game 44: Devils Beat Blue Jackets 2-1
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Blue Jackets 2-1 in Columbus
on Friday, January 16, 2009.
Neither team was able to score in the first period. The
Blue Jackets outshot the Devils 8-6 in the first 20 minutes of game
play.
Manny Malhotra beat Kevin Weekes at 12:46 of the second period to
give the Blue Jackets a 1-0 lead. The first period ended with Columbus
still leading 1-0. The Blue Jackets outshot the Devils 12-9 in the
period.
6 seconds into the Devils first power-play of the game, Travis
Zajac took advantage and beat Steve Mason at 10:06 to tie the game, 1-1.
Zajac's 13th of the season was scored unassisted.
John Madden gave the Devils their first lead of the game with a
goal at 11:19. David Clarkson assisted on Madden's fifth goal of the
season.
