The New Jersey Devils beat the Phoenix Coyotes 5-2 at home
on Thursday, March 12, 2009.
It only took 18 seconds for Zach Parise to find the back of the
Coyotes net. Parise's 40th goal of the season was assisted by Jamie
John Madden beat Josh Tordjam at 2:56 to give the Devils a 2-0
lead. Johnny Oduya and Mike Rupp assisted on Madden's seventh goal of
Scottie Upshall beat Martin Brodeur on a power-play at 9:34 to
cut the Devils lead to a single goal.
The Devils outshot the Coyotes 16-5 in the first period, which
ended with the Devils leading, 2-1.
Dainius Zubrus made it 3-1 with a goal at 7:11 of the second
period. Brendan Shanahan and Bryce Salvador assisted on Zubrus' 14th
goal of the season.
Patrik Elias beat Tordjam at 13:03 to make it 4-1. Brian
Gionta and Bryce Salvador assisted on Elias' 27th of the season.
The Coyotes outshot the Devils 11-9 in the second period, which
ended with the Devils leading, 4-1.
Travis Zajac scored a power-play goal at 4:58 of the third period
to give New Jersey a four goal lead. Zajac's 19th goal of the season was
assisted by Brian Rolston and Patrik Elias.
Steven Reinprecht scored for Phoenix at 17:52 to cut the Devils
lead to 5-2.
