March 20, 2009 Game 71: Devils Shutout Wild 4-0
The New Jersey Devils beat the Minnesota Wild 4-0 at the
Prudential Center on Friday, March 20, 2009. The shutout was number 101
of Martin Brodeur's career.
The Devils outshot the Wild 6-4 in the first period, which ended
with the game still scoreless.
Patrik Elias beat Niklas Backstrom at 1:24 of the second period
to give the Devils a 1-0 lead. Elias' 29th goal of the season was scored
unassisted.
Brian Gionta scored his 18th goal of the season at 9:59.
Zach Parise and Mike Mottau assisted on the goal, which gave the Devils a two
goal lead.
Johnny Oduya made it 3-0 with a goal at 11:02. David
Clarkson and Brendan Shanahan assisted on Oduya's seventh goal of the
season.
The Wild outshot the Devils 16-7 in the second period, but New
Jersey led 3-0 after 40 minutes of play.
Patrik Elias scored his second goal of the game at 8:32 of the
third period, on a power-play. Travis Zajac and Paul Martin assisted on
the goal.
