March 23, 2009 Game 73: Devils Drop 2nd Straight, Flyers Win 4-2
The New Jersey Devils lost 2-4 to the Flyers in Philadelphia on
Monday, March 23, 2009.
Brendan Shanahan gave the Devils a 1-0 lead with a goal that beat
Martin Biron at 9:42 of the first period. Dainius Zubrus and Bryce
Salvador assisted on Shanahan's fifth goal of the season.
Daniel Briere tied the game with a power-play goal that beat
Martin Brodeur at 15:57.
The Devils outshot the Flyers 10-8 in the first period, but the
period ended with the teams tied, 1-1.
Mike Knuble scored a power-play goal at 4:45 of the second period
to give the Flyers a 2-1 lead.
Jamie Langenbrunner tied the game with a power-play goal at 9:58.
Brian Rolston and Paul Martin assisted on Langenbrunner's 25th goal of
the season.
The second period ended with the teams tied, 2-2. The
Devils outshot the Flyers 16-11 in the period.
Jeff Carter added a power-play goal for the Flyers just 55
seconds into the third period. Simone Gagne made it 4-2 Philadelphia
with the Flyers first even strength goal of the game at 3:01.
