March 27, 2009 Game 74: Devils Fall 2-3 to Hawks in Overtime
The New Jersey Devils lost 2-3 in overtime to the Blackhawks in
Chicago on Friday, March 27, 2009.
Kris Versteeg beat Martin Brodeur at 5:51 of the first period on
a power-play to give the Blackhawks a 1-0 lead.
Zach Parise got the Devils on the board with a goal that beat
Nikolai Khabibulin at 7:23. Travis Zajac and Jamie Langenbrunner
assisted on Parise's 42nd goal of the season.
Paul Martin scored with just 18 seconds remaining in the period
to give the Devils a 2-1 lead. Brian Gionta and Dainius Zubrus assisted
on Martin's fifth goal of the season.
The Devils took took 5 minor penalties in the first period - the
Blackhawks were assessed none. The Blackhawks outshot the Devils 20-14
with their 10 minutes of power-play time in the first period.
Martin Havlat tied the game with a goal at 14:23. The
Hawks outshot the Devils 10-5 in the second period, which ended with the teams
tied, 2-2.
The Devils outshot the Blackhawks 11-9 in the third period,
though neither team scored, forcing overtime.
Duncan Keith won the game for Chicago with an overtime goal at
3:35.
