October 12, 2009 Game 5: Devils Beat Capitals: 3-2 Shootout
The New Jersey Devils won a 3-2 shootout in Washington over the
Capitals on Monday, October 12, 2009. The victory gave the Devils 6 out
of 6 points on their road trip.
Mike Green beat Martin Brodeur at 9:06 of the first period to
give Washington a 1-0 lead. Mike Knuble made it 2-0 with a goal at
14:16.
The Devils outshot the Capitals 7-6 in the first period, which
ended with Washington leading, 2-0.
Brian Rolston put the puck into the Washington net at 8:18 of
the second period to get the Devils on the board. Rob Niedermayer and
Colin White assisted on Rolston's second goal of the season.
The Capitals outshot the Devils 12-7 in the second period, which
ended with Washington leading 2-1.
David Clarkson tied the game with a goal that beat Jose Theodore
at 13:34 of the third period. Nicklas Bergfors and Dainius Zubrus
assisted on Clarkson's second goal of the season.
Regulation time ended with the teams tied, 2-2. The Devils
outshot the Capitals 12-11 in the third period.
