October 31, 2009 Game 12: Devils Defeat Lightning, 2-1 Shootout
The New Jersey Devils skated to a 2-1 shootout victory over the
Lightning in Tampa Bay on Saturday, October 31, 2009.
Neither team scored in the first period. The Devils
outshot the Lightning 13-3 in the period.
Travis Zajac beat Antero Niittymaki just 50 seconds into the
second period to give the Devils a 1-0 lead. Mark Fraser was credited
with the only assist on Zajac's sixth of the season.
The second period ended with the Devils leading, 1-0. The
Devils outshot the Lightning 15-6 in the period.
Steven Stampkos beat Martin Brodeur at 4:34 of the third period
to tie the game, 1-1.
Regulation time ended with the teams tied, 1-1. Neither
team scored in the overtime period, forcing a shootout. David Clarkson
was the only player to score in the shootout.
