December 12, 2009 Game 31: Devils Smoke Flyers 4-1
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 4-1 in
Newark on Saturday, December 12, 2009. Niclas Bergfors and Patrik Elias
each netted two goals in the Devils victory.
Niclas Bergfors gave the Devils an early lead with a power-play
goal that beat Brian Boucher at 2:33 of the first period. Brian Rolston
and Martin Brodeur assisted on Bergfors' 10th goal of the season.
Another power-play goal from Bergfors at 12:31 gave the Devils a
2-0 lead. Travis Zajac and Zach Parise assisted on Bergfors' second goal
of the game.
Patrik Elias increased the Devils lead with his fifth goal of the
season at 15:47. Vladimir Zharkov was credited with the only assist on
Elias' goal.
The Devils outshot the Flyers 14-5 in the first period, which
ended with the Devils leading 3-0.
Claude Giroux got the Flyers on the board with a goal that beat
Martin Brodeur at 15:03 of the second period on a power-play.
Patrik Elias scored his second goal of the game at 19:26 of the
second period. Brian Rolston and Travis Zajac assisted on the
goal.
The second period ended with the Devils leading the Flyers, 4-1.
The Flyers outshot the Devils 12-5 in the period.
Neither team scored in the third period, in which the Devils
outshot the Flyers 9-6.
