December 16, 2009 Game 32: Ilkka Nets First, Devils Defeat Habs 2-1
The New Jersey Devils skated to a 2-1 victory at home over the
Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday, December 16, 2009.
Travis Moen surprised Martin Brodeur with a short-handed goal at
12:23 of the first period to give Montreal a 1-0 lead.
The Devils outshot the Canadiens 8-7 in the first period, which
ended with Montreal leading 1-0.
Ilkka Pikkarainen scored his first NHL goal, beating Carey Price
at 16:25 of the second period. Dean McAmmond and Rod Pelley assisted on
the goal which tied the game.
The second period ended with the game tied, 1-1. The
Devils outshot the Habs 9-8 in the period.
Patrik Elias scored at 17:24 of the third period to give New
Jersey their first lead of the game. Brian Rolston and Vladimir Zharkov
assisted on Elias' seventh goal of the season.
The Devils outshot the Canadiens 10-3 in the third period and
27-18 in the game.
Ex-Devil Scott Gomez was continually booed throughout the
game.
