December 21, 2009 Game 35: Brodeur & Devils Shutout Penguins 4-0
The New Jersey Devils shutout the Pengins 4-0 in Pittsburgh on
Monday, December 21, 2009. The shutout was the record-setting 104th of
Martin Brodeur's career.
Bryce Salvador beat Marc-Andre Fleury at 4:39 of the first period
to give New Jersey a 1-0 lead. Dean McAmmond and Andy Greene assisted on
Salvador's second goal of the season.
The Penguins outshot the Devils 10-5 in the first period, which
ended with New Jersey leading 1-0.
Niclas Bergfors scored a power-play goal just 23 seconds into the
second period to give the Devils a 2-0 lead. Zach Parise and Andy Greene
assisted on Bergfors' 12th goal of the season.
Patrik Elias gave the Devils a 3-0 lead with a goal at 8:27.
Dean McAmmond and Zach Parise assisted on Elias' eighth goal of the
season.
Mark Fraser increased the Devils lead to a commanding four goals
when he beat Fleury at 11:03. Zach Parise was credited with the only
assist on Fraser's second goal of the season.
The Penguins outshot the Devils 14-9 in the third period, though
neither team scored in the final 20 minutes of play.
