January 29, 2010 Game 53: Devils Beat Maple Leafs 5-4 Overtime
The New Jersey Devils beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-4 in
overtime at the Prudential Center on Friday, January 29, 2010.
Carl Gunnarsson put the puck behind Martin Brodeur at 6:11 of the
first period to give the Maple Leafs a 1-0 lead.
Zach Parise evened the score by beating Jonas Gustavsson just 59
seconds later. Dainius Zubrus and Travis Zajac assisted on Parise's 24th
goal of the season.
Parise made it 2-1 with his second goal of the game at 13:40.
Zubrus and Zajac were again credited with assists.
The Leafs outshot the Devils 11-8 in the first period, which
ended with New Jersey leading, 2-1.
Dainius Zubrus beat Gustavsson at 9:22 of the second period to
give the Devils a 3-1 lead. Travis Zajac and Zach Parise assisted on
Zubrus' third goal of the season.
Colton Orr got the Leafs back within a single goal of New Jersey
with a goal at 14:41.
Patrick Davis scored his first career NHL goal at 17:19 to make
it a 4-2 New Jersey lead. Rob Niedermayer and Colin White assisted on
the goal.
The Devils outshot the Leafs 14-9 in the second period, which
ended with the Devils leading 4-2.
Alexei Ponikarovsky cut the Devils lead again to a single goal at
14:59 of the third period. Matt Stajan tied the game with a goal at
18:29, sending the game to overtime.
Travis Zajac won the game for New Jersey with a power-play goal
at 4:14 of the overtime period. Zach Parise and Brian Rolston assisted
on Zajac's 15th goal of the season. <
