February 08, 2010 Game 58: Devils Fall to Flyers 2-3
The New Jersey Devils blew a 2 goal lead, allowing the Flyers to
score 3 unanswered goals in Philadelphia on Monday, February 8, 2010.
Zach Parise beat Michael Leighton on a power-play at 7:00 of the
first period to give the Devils a 1-0 lead. Patrik Elias and Andy Greene
assisted on Parise's 26th goal of the season.
The Flyers outshot the Devils 12-7 in the first period, but the
Devils led 1-0 after 20 minutes of play.
Anssi Salmela scored a short-handed goal 1:01 into the second
period. As he scored the goal, Jeff Carter threw a late hit on him with
his shoulder and elbow, sending to the ice. He lay rather motionless
(though did move his legs briefly) for 5 minutes before being taken off the ice
on a stretcher. Travis Zajac and Bryce Salvador assisted on Salmela's
second goal of the season.
James van Riemsdyk beat Martin Brodeur at 18:24 to get the Flyers
on the board. A goal from Jeff Carter at 19:36 tied the game.
The Flyers outshot the Devils 15-13 in the second period, which
ended with the teams tied, 2-2.
Mike Richards scored a power-play goal at 12:02 of the third
period to gave the Flyers their first lead of the game.
