March 02, 2010 Game 62: Devils Beat Sharks: 4-3
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Sharks 4-3 in San Jose on
Tuesday, March 2, 2010.
Neither team scored in the first period, in which the Devils
outshot the Sharks 10-8.
Dainius Zubrus gave the Devils a 1-0 lead with a goal that beat
Evgeni Nabokov at 11:13 of the second period. Patrik Elias and Ilya
Kovalchuk assisted on Zubrus' sixth goal of the season.
Mark Fraser scored just 35 seconds later to give New Jersey a
2-0 lead. David Clarkson and Anssi Salmela assisted on Fraser's third
goal of the season.
With just 18 seconds remaining in the second period, Ilya
Kovalchuk added a power-play goal to increase the Devils lead to three goals.
Zach Parise and Travis Zajac were credited with assists on Kovalchuk's
33rd goal of the season.
New Jersey led 3-0 after 40 minutes of game time. The
Devils outshot the Sharks 9-6 in the period.
Travis Zajac gave the Devils a seemingly commanding 4-0 lead
with a goal at 5:44 of the third period. Zach Parise and Jamie
Langenbrunner assisted on Zajac's 20th goal of the season.
Devin Setoguchi beat Martin Brodeur at 8:46 to get the Sharks on
the board. Setoguchi added a power-play goal at 10:35 to cut the Devils
lead to two goals. Joe Pavelski made it a one goal game when he scored
at 11:32.
