March 23, 2010 Game 72: Devils Roast Blue Jackets 6-3
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets 6-3 at
the Prudential Center on Tuesday, March 23, 2010.
Zach Parise put the Devils on the board with a power-play goal at
13:01 of the first period. Jamie Langenbrunner and Patrik Elias assisted
on Parise's 34th goal of the season.
The Blue Jackets outshot the Devils 10-9 in the first period,
though the Devils led 1-0 in goals.
Paul Martin beat Steve Mason with a power-play goal just 1:14
into the second period to give New Jersey a 2-0 lead. Patrik Elias and
Ilya Kovalchuk assisted on Martin's second goal of the season.
Antione Vermette got Columbus on the scoreboard with a goal that
beat Martin Brodeur at 3:40.
Ilya Kovalchuk scored the Devils third power-play goal of the
game at 12:32 to give the Devils a 3-1 lead. Zach Parise and Mike Mottau
assisted on Kovalchuk's 37th goal of the season.
Travis Zajac made it 4-1 with a goal at 15:40. Ilya
Kovalchuk and Paul Martin assisted on Zajac's 22nd goal of the season.
Zajac scored his second goal of the game at 19:07. Zajac's
goal was assisted by Mike Mottau and Ilya Kovalchuk.
Jakub Voracek made it a three goal game again with a goal at
19:40.
The Devils outshot the Blue Jackets 10-8 in the second period,
which ended with New Jersey leading 5-2.
Kristian Huselius scored for Columbus at 6:00 of the third
period.
Zach Parise made it 6-3 with his second goal of the game at
12:52. Jamie Langenbrunner and Patrik Elias assisted on the goal.
