October 09, 2010 Game 2: Capitals DESTROY Devils 7-2
The Capitals demolished the Devils 7-2 in Washington on Saturday,
October 9, 2010.
Jason Arnott gave the Devils an early 1-0 lead when he put the
puck past Michal Nuevirth just 1:49 into the first period. Jamie
Langenbrunner and Patrik Elias assisted on Arnott's second goal of the
season.
John Carlson evened the score with a goal that beat Martin
Brodeur just 35 seconds after Arnott's tally.
The Devils took a 2-1 lead when Henrik Tallinder scored a
short-handed goal at 13:44. Dainius Zubrus and Travis Zajac assisted on
Tallinder's first goal of the season.
The Capitals outshot the Devils 12-10 in the first period, which
ended with New Jersey leading 2-1.
Tomas Fleischmann scored at 1:59 of the second period to tie the
game, 2-2. Alexander Ovechkin scored at 14:31 to make it 3-2 Washington.
Jason Chimera scored at 18:25 and Ovechkin scored on a penalty shot at
19:12 to make it 5-2 Capitals.
The second period ended with Washington leading 5-2. The
Devils outshot the Caps 17-8, but were outscored 0-4 in the second
period.
Johan Hedberg tookover in net for New Jersey at the start of the
third period. At 3:07 Hedberg came way out of the goal and gave the puck
away, leading to a short-handed goal from Brooks Laich. Eric Fehr added
a power-play goal for Washington at 10:27 to give the Caps a 7-2 lead.
