October 10, 2011 Game 2: Devils BEAT Hurricanes 4-2
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 4-2 at home
on Monday, October 10, 2011.
New Captain Zach Parise gave the Devils their first goal of the
2011-2012 season at 3:59 of the first period. Patrik Elias and Petr
Sykora assisted on the goal.
Alexei Ponikarovsky beat Johan Hedberg at 8:56 of the second
period to tie the game, 1-1.
Mark Fayne gave the lead back to New Jersey when he beat Cam Ward
just 40 seconds after the Carolina goal. Fayne's first goal of the
season was assisted by Ilya Kovalchuk and Nick Palmieri.
Chad Larose tied the game at 2 goals a piece with a goal at
12:47.
Ilya Kovalchuk scored his first goal of the season at 6:06 of the
third period to give the Devils a 3-2 lead. Jacob Josefson and Nick
Palmieri assisted on the goal.
Zach Parise added an empty-net power-play goal 18:54 of the third
period to seal the Devils victory. Ilya Kovalchuk assisted on Parise's
second goal of the game.
