December 16, 2011 Game 31: Devils Honor Niedermayer, Beat Stars 6-3
The New Jersey Devils tossed the Dallas Stars a 6-3 beating in
front of a sell-out crowd at the Prudential Center on Friday, December 16,
2011.
The Devils honored long-time defenseman Scott Niedermayer prior
to the game with a ceremony and the retirement of his number, 27.
Michael Ryder beat Johan Hedberg at 8:40 of the first period to
give the Stars a 1-0 lead.
David Clarkson tied the game with a goal that beat Richad Bachman
at 15:43 of the first period. Patrik Elias and Zach Parise assisted on
Clarkson's 10th goal of the season.
Brenden Morrow scored just 1:38 into the second period to regain
the lead for the Stars.
A short-handed goal from Adam Henrique tied the game at 3:35.
Zach Parise's perfect pass was the only assist on Henrique's eighth goal
of the season.
Ilya Kovalchuk scored his 10th goal of the season at 12:12 of the
second period to give the Devils their first lead of the game. Zach
Parise and Adam Larsson assisted on the goal.
A goal from Petr Sykora at 18:33 gave New Jersey a two goal
lead. Cam Janssen and Ryan Carter were credited with assists on Sykora's
seventh goal of the season.
Zach Parise made it 5-2 with a goal at 9:19 of the third period.
Adam Larsson and Ilya Kovalchuk assisted on Parise's 11th goal of the
season.
Toby Petersen cut the Devils lead to two goals when he scored at
14:10.
Patrik Elias removed all hope from the Stars' bench when he
scored just 20 seconds after Petersen's goal. Dainius Zubrus and Petr
Sykora assisted on Elias' 11th goal of the season.
