December 17, 2011 Game 32: ELIAS & Devils DEFEAT Canadiens 5-3
The New Jersey Devils skated to a 5-3 victory over the Canadiens
in Montreal on Saturday, December 17, 2011.
Petr Sykora beat Carey Price at 7:05 of the first period to give
the Devils a 1-0 lead. Dainius Zubrus and Adam Henrique assisted on
Sykora's eighth goal of the season.
P.K. Subban beat Martin Brodeur at 2:21 of the second period on
a 5 on 3 power-play to tie the game, 1-1.
Patrik Elias scored his 347th career NHL goal at 5:05 of the
second period to give the Devils a 2-1 lead. Elias' 12th goal of the
season scored on a power-play was assisted by Ilya Kovalchuk and Kurtis
Foster. 347 ties Johnny MacLean for the Devils all-time lead in goals
scored.
Chris Campoli tied the game at 6:33 and Lars Eller gave the Habs
a 3-2 lead with a goal at 8:57.
David Clarkson took a perfect, long pass from Adam Larsson and
buried it to tie the game at 18:26 of the second period. Larsson's
assist was the only one credited on the goal.
As of the 1:31 mark of the third period, Patrik Elias now stands
alone as the Devils all-time leading goal scorer. Petr Sykora assisted
on Elias' second goal of the game, and the 348th goal of his career!
Dainius Zubrus added a power-play goal at 10:18 to give the Devs
a 5-3 lead. Zubrus' 10th goal of the season was assisted by Ilya
Kovalchuk and Kurtis Foster.
