December 26, 2011 Game 35: Devils Fall 2-4 to Hurricanes
The New Jersey Devils were defeated 4-2 by the Hurricanes in
Carolina on Monday, December 26, 2011.
Brandon Sutter scored a short-handed goal on Johan Hedberg at
11:13 of the first period to give Carolina a 1-0 lead. Tuomo Ruutu and
Anthony Steward scored second period goals (7:01 and 17:13) to make it a 3
goal Hurricanes lead.
David Clarkson got the Devils on the board with a great assist
from Anton Volchenkov, beating Cam Ward at 12:38 of the third period.
Kurtis Foster was also credited with an assist on Clarkson's 12th goal of the
season.
Adam Herique made it a game with a goal at 17:40 of the third
period. David Clarkson and Aton Volchenkov assisted on Henrique's 10th
goal of the season.
An errant pass from Ilya Kovalchuk was tipped by Brandon Sutter
at the 19:30 mark - the puck went the length of the ice into the Devils net
to make it a 4-2 Hurricanes victory.
EDIT: After the game, it was shown that Sutter did not touch the
puck. Since Cam Ward was the last Hurricane to touch the puck before
Kovalchuk shot it into the Devils net, the Carolina netminder was credited with
the goal.
