January 17, 2012 Game 45: Devils Smash Jets 5-1
The New Jersey Devils skated to a 5-1 victory at home over the
Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday, January 17, 2012.
Ilya Kovalchuk got the scoring started with a goal at 18:59 of
the first perod. Zach Parise assisted on Kovalchuk's 18th goal of the
season.
Petr Sykora scored his 11th goal of the season at 1:32 of the
second period. Henrik Tallinder and Patrik Elias assisted on the
goal.
The Devils took a 3-0 lead when David Clarkson scored at 4:48.
Patrik Elias was credited with the only assist on Clarkson's 16 goal
of the season.
Ilya Kovalchuk made it 4-0 with a power-play goal at 7:38.
Kovalchuk's second goal of the game was assisted by David Clarkson and Kurtis
Foster.
Chris Mason was replaced by Ondrej Pavelec shortly after
Kovalchuk's second goal.
Tobias Enstrom beat Martin Brodeur at 8:18 of the third perod to
get the Jets on the scoreboard.
Patrik Elias scored at 11:31 to make it 5-1. Aton
Volchenkov and Petr Sykora assisted on Elias' 17th goal of the season.
