March 29, 2012 Game 78: Devils Beat Lightning 6-4
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 6-4 at the
Prudential Center on Thursday, March 29, 2012.
Ryan Malone beat Martin Brodeur with just 44 seconds remaining
in the first period to break the scoreless deadlock.
Dainius Zubrus scored short-handed, beating Dwayne Roloson to tie
the game at 3:07 of the second period. Patrik Elias was credited with
the only assist on Zubrus' 17th goal of the season.
Malone scored his second of the game just 1:33 after Zubrus'
goal.
Jacob Josefson tied the game with his second goal of the season
at 6:54. The goal was assisted by Ryan Carter and David Clarkson.
Ryan Malone gave Tampa the lead again when he completed a hat
trick at 10:13 of the second period.
The game was knotted again when Ilya Kovalchuk scored at 13:26.
Adam Henrique and Zach Parise assisted on Kovalchuk's 33rd goal of the
season.
Marek Zidlicky scored the Devils fourth goal of the second period
at 14:37. The power-play goal was the second of the season for Zidlicky
and was assisted by Ilya Kovalchuk and Patrik Elias.
The Devls fifth goal of the game came from Alexei Ponikarovsky at
2:25 of the third period. Bryce Salvador was credited with the only
assist on Ponikarovsky's 13th goal of the season.
David Clarkson scored his 29th goal of the season at 6:05 to give
the Devils a 6-3 lead. Alexei Ponikarovsky and Adam Henrique assisted on
the goal.
Trevor Smith cut the Devils lead to just two goals at
19:51.
