April 17, 2012 R1 Game 3: Refs Help Devils Blow 3 Goal Lead, Lose 3-4
The New Jersey Devils lost their game 3 Stanley Cup Playoffs
Quarterfinals matchup against the Florida Panthers at the Prudential Center,
3-4 on Tuesday, April 17, 2012. The Panthers now lead the best-of-seven
series, 2-1.
Zach Parise got the Devils on the board early - he beat Jose
Theodore just 33 seconds into the first period to give New Jersey the 1-0
lead. Travis Zajac and Ilya Kovalchuk assisted on Parise's first goal of
the playoffs.
Stephen Gionta scored his first career playoff goal to make it
2-0 at 3:27. Marek Zidlicky and Steve Bernier assisted on the
goal.
A power-play goal from Patrik Elias at 6:16 of the first period
gave the Devils a comanding lead. Zach Parise and David Clarkson were
credited with assists on Elias' second goal of the playoffs.
The Panthers scored four unanswered goals, three of them on the
power-play with the help of some terrible officiating. Tim Peel also
waived off (BOGUS call) the Devils game-tying fourth goal.
