February 15, 2013 Game 14: Devils Score Early, Slip, Then Recover: Beat Flyers 5-3
The New Jersey Devils kept their lead over the Eastern Conference
with a 5-3 win at home over the Philadelphia Flyers on Friday, February 15,
2013.
Travis Zajac got the Devils on the board first - with only 40
seconds ticked off the time clock. Ilya Kovalchuk and Mark Fayne
assisted on the goal.
Wayne Simmonds beat Martin Broder at 9:27 on a power-play to tie
the game, 1-1. Mike Knuble made it 2-1 Flyers with a snap shot at 11:15,
and Matt Read made it a 2 goal Philadelphia lead with a goal just 48 seconds
later.
Newly re-acquired Alexei Ponikarovsky got the Devils back in the
game with a goal just 26 seconds into the second period. Ilya Kovalchuk
and Martin Brodeur assisted on Ponikarovsky's third goal of the season.
Patrik Elias tied the game with a goal at 15:40. Ilya
Kovalchuk and Travis Zajac assisted on Elias' fourth goal of the season.
David Clarkson tipped the puck past Bryzgalov at 10:43 of the
third period, with assists from Adam Larsson and Patrik Elias to make it a 4-3
Devils lead.
An empty net goal from Steve Bernier at 18:24 sealed the Devils
victory. Patrik Elias and Stephen Gionta assisted on Bernier's fourth
goal of the season.
