Round 1: Devils Win Game 3!   4-0
The New Jersey Devils shutout the Carolina Hurricanes 4-0, Tuesday, April 17, 2001. Martin Brodeur recorded his 10th career playoff shutout in what was an intense meeting between the two teams.
The Hurricanes began the game playing physical, but Scott Stevens really set the tone early by leveling the Hurricanes Captain, Ron Francis.   The hit was a signature check (clean) by Stevens, which left Francis with a mild concussion.
Bobby Holik scored the first Devils goal, Scott Gomez, Randy McKay, and Brian Rafalski also scored.
There were a total of 104 penalty minutes assessed in the game.   Carolina had 19 penalties 71 minutes of 104 (68%) - 54 of those minutes in the third period.   The Devils had 12 penalties for 33 minutes.   Neither team has been successful on the power play through the first three games of the series.
