December 10, 2001 Devils lose to Columbus 3-1
The New Jersey Devils lost to the Blue Jackets in
Columbus 3-1 on Monday, December 10, 2001.
The first period ended with the game scoreless, but the
Blue Jackets leading in shots 14-7.
Espen Knutsen scored for the Blue Jackets (their first
goal in four games) at 4:25 of the second period to give Columbus a
1-0 lead.
Scott Niedermayer took a nice pass from Scott Gomez and
used a back-hand shot to put the puck past Marc Denis at 7:20.
Scott Stevens also got an assist on Niedermayer's 4th goal of the
season which tied the game, 1-1.
David Vyborny got the Blue Jackets back out in front just
1:31 after the Niedermayer goal beating Brodeur at 8:51, giving the
Blue Jackets a 2-1 lead.
The second period ended with Columbus leading the game,
2-1. The Devils outshot the Blue Jackets 8-4 in the period.
Ray Whitney scored for Columbus at 3:58 of the third
period to give the Blue Jackets a 3-1 lead.
The game ended with the Blue Jackets defeating the Devils
by a score of 3-1.
Sergei Nemchinov and Adrei Zyuzin were the scratches for
the Devils.
