January 12, 2002 Sabres Beat Devils 2-1
The New Jersey Devils were defeated by the Sabres in
Buffalo by a score of 2-1 on Saturday, January 12, 2002.
Miroslav Satan beat Martin Brodeur shorthanded at 19:39
of the first period to give the Sabres a 1-0 lead.
The first period ended with the Sabres leading the Devils
1-0. The Sabres outshot the Devils 8-7 in the period.
Bruce Gardiner got his first goal as a Devil at 18:07 of
the second period. Gardiner's power-play goal was assisted by
Scott Niedermayer and Scott Gomez.
The Sabres first and only shot on goal in the second period
beat Brodeur with just 40 seconds left in the period.
The second period ended with the Sabres leading the Devils
2-1. New Jersey outshot Buffalo 8-1 in the period.
There was no scoring in the third period. The Sabres
won the game by a score of 2-1. The Devils outshot the Sabres
14-9 in the third period and 29-20 in the game.
