February 09, 2002 Devils Defeat Penguins 2-1 in OT
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Penguins 2-1 in Pittsburgh
on Saturday, February 9, 2002 in overtime.
Each team had 3 power-play opportunities in the first
period, but there were no goals scored. The period ended in a 0-0
tie. The Devils outshot the Penguins 14-5 in the period.
There was no scoring in the second period. The Devils
outshot the Penguins 14-3 in the period.
Aleksey Morozov beat Martin Brodeur at 6:43 of the third
period to give the Penguins a 1-0 lead.
Bobby Holik beat Johan Hedberg at 11:47 of the third to tie
the game, 1-1. Brian Rafalski and Scott Gomez got assists on the
goal.
The third period ended with the game tied, 1-1. The
Penguins outshot the Devils 11-10 in the third period.
With 8.6 seconds left into the 5 minute overtime period,
Brian Rafalski blasted the puck past Hedberg to win the game.
Rafalski's 7th goal of the season was assisted by Bobby Holik and Valeri
Kamensky.
The Devils defeated the Penguins, 2-1 and outshot them
41-20.
