March 17, 2002 Devils Fall to Canucks 2-3 in OT
The New Jersey Devils fell to the Vancouver Canucks 3-2,
at home, in overtime on March 17, 2002.
Big Jim McKenzie helped to get the Devils on the board
early, at 3:18 of the first period by setting up Sergei Nemchinov with
an excellent pass. Nemchinov's 5th goal of the season was also
assisted by Randy McKay.
Todd Bertuzzi tied the game at 15:12 by beating Brodeur
with a quick shot.
Patrik Elias put the Devils ahead again at 18:25 of the
first period. Elias's 23rd goal of the season was assisted by
Brian Rafalski and Petr Sykora.
The first period ended with the Devils leading the Canucks
2-1. New Jersey outshot Vancouver 8-6 in the period.
There was no scoring in the second period. Vancouver
oushot New Jersey 10-8 in the period.
Trevor Linden scored for Vancouver at 11:02 of the third
period to tie the game, 2-2.
Regulation time ended with game tied, 2-2. The
Canucks outshot the Devils 8-2 in the third period.
A questionable call on Valeri Kamensky gave the Canucks a
power-play 1:40 into the overtime period. Mattias Ohlund scored,
on the power-play, to win the game in overtime for Vancouver. The
Canucks outshot the Devils 26-18 in the game.
Jim McKenzie now has a three game point streak, with a
goal and two assists. Brian Rafalski also has a three game point streak,
with 4 assists.
