October 18, 2002Devils Beat Predators, 3-2 in Overtime
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Nashville Predators,
3-2 at home on Friday, October 18, 2002. Patrik Elias scored the
overtime game winning goal, to extend the Devils winning streak to 3
There was no scoring in the first period, but the Devils
outshot the Predators 9-7 in the period.
Colin White got his first goal of the season (and the first
goal for the Devils defense) at 2:26 of the second period to give the
Devils a 1-0 lead. Joe Nieuwendyk and Sergei Brylin got assists
on the goal.
Sergei Brylin beat Mike Dunham at 8:50 on the power-play
to give the Devils a 2-0 lead. Brylin's second goal of the season
was assisted by John Madden and Oleg Tverdovsky. Before the goal,
the Devils were 0-15 on the power-play on the season.
Adam Hall ruined Brodeur's shutout at 16:29 of the second
period on the power-play.
The second period ended with the Devils leading Nashville
2-1. The shots were even, 8-8 in the period.
Andreas Johansson tied the game at 18:01 of the third
period, on the power-play. The predators got the power-play when
Elias was sent to the box for an illegal stick penalty.
Regulation time ended with the game tied, 2-2. The
Predators outshot the Devils 9-7 in the third period.
Patrik Elias made a nice move to beat Dunham, 1:16 into
the overtime, to win the game 3-2. Elias scored his second goal
of the season using one of Jim McKenzie's sticks. Scott Gomez
and Oleg Tverdovsky got assists on the goal.
Andrei Zyuzin and Stephen Guolla were healthy scratches
for the Devils.
The announced attendance for the game was 12,363.
