November 16, 2002Game 15: Devils vs Habs, Part II - Habs Win 3-1
The Devils were defeated by the Canadiens, 3-1 in Montreal
on Saturday, November 16, 2002. The Habs win ties the season series,
1-1; the teams will face eachother two more times this season.
Donald Audette got the Habs on the board early, by beating
Brodeur at 4:01 of the first period.
The first period ended with the Canadiens leading the Devils,
1-0. The Devils outshot the Habs, 9-8 in the period.
Yanic Perreault gave the Canadiens a 2-0 lead with just
41 seconds remaining in the second.
The second period ended with the Habs leading the Devils,
2-0. The shots were even, 7-7 in the period.
Perreault got his second goal of the game at 3:59 of the
third to increase Montreals lead to 3-0.
Colin White wrecked Theodore's shutout bid at 6:22 of the
third. White's third goal of the season was assisted by Jeff
Friesen and Ken Daneyko.
The game ended with the Canadiens defeating the Devils,
3-1. The Devils outshot the Habs 8-7 in the third and 24-22 in the
The game was the second half of a back-to-back home-and-home
series. The Devils won the first game, 5-1 in New Jersey on
The Devils still lead the lifetime series, 35-28-7-1, but
are 13-18-4-1 in Montreal.
Montreal Canadiens Hall of Fame defenseman, and current
Devils special assignment coach, Larry Robinson was honored prior to the
start of the game. Their was a video presentation, followed by a
standing ovation for him when he walked out onto the ice.
The Devils had five power-play opportunities in the game, but
no goals with the man advantage, dropping them to 8 for 73 (10.9%).
Tommy Albelin was in the lineup for Oleg Tverdovsky. Jay
Pandolfo and Stephen Guolla were also scratches for the Devils.
Martin Brodeur made his 15th consecutive start in goal for
