March 15, 2003 Game 70: Devils Beat Rangers: 3-1
The New Jersey Devils defeated the New York Rangers, 3-1 at home
on Saturday, March 15, 2003.
There was no scoring in the first period, but the Devils outshot
the Rangers, 12-5 in the period.
Patrik Elias gave the Devils a 1-0 lead, beating Dunham just 3:04
into the second period. Scott Niedermayer and Scott Gomez assisted on
Elias's 20th goal of the season.
The second period ended with the Devils leading the Rangers, 1-0.
The Devils outshot the Rangers, 16-7 in the period.
Pascal Rheaume recorded his first goal as a Devil this season
just 1:47 into the third period, short-handed. Patrik Elias assisted on
Rheaume's 5th goal of the season.
Scott Stevens beat Dunham 2:29 after Rheaume's goal to give the
Devils a 3-0 lead. Brian Giontaa and John Madden assisted on Stevens'
3rd goal of the season.
Matthew Barnaby ruined Brodeur's shutout bid just 13 seconds
after Stevens' goal to cut the Devils lead to 3-1.
The game ended with the Devils defeating the Rangers, 3-1.
The Devils outshot the Rangers 10-5 in the third period and 38-17 in the
game.
