May 27, 2003 Round 4 Game 1: Devils Smoke Ducks: 3-0!
The New Jersey Devils shutdown the Anaheim Mighty Ducks, 3-0, at
home on Tuesday, May 27, 2003. The shutout was the first career Cup
Finals shutout for Martin Brodeur.
There was no scoring in the first period. The Devils
outshot the Mighty Ducks 6-4 in the period.
Jeff Friesen gave the Devils a 1-0 lead just 1:45 into the
second period beating Jean-Sebastien Giguere on the short side.
Friesen's 6th goal of the playoffs was assisted by Sergei Brylin and Brian
Gionta.
The second period ended with the Devils leading the Mighty Ducks,
1-0. The Devils outshot the Ducks, 9-2 in the period.
Grant Marshall made it a big, 2-0 lead 5:34 into the third after
taking a sweet pass from Patrik Elias and smacking it into an empty net.
Patrik Elias and Scott Gomez assisted on Marshall's 5th goal of the
playoffs.
Jeff Friesen sealed the win with an empty net goal with 22
seconds remaining in the third period. Colin White and Martin Brodeur
assisted on Friesen's second goal of the game.
The game ended with the Devils defeating the Ducks, 3-0.
The Devils outshot the Ducks, 9-8 in the third period and 30-16 in the
game.
Joe Nieuwendyk and Ken Daneyko were both out of the lineup.
Oleg Tverdovsky and Jim McKenzie returned to the lineup to take their
places.
