October 24, 2003 Game 6: Devils Defeat Penguins, 2-1!
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Penguins, 2-1, in Pittsburgh
on Friday, October 24, 2003.
Brian Rafalski slapped the puck past rookie goaltender,
Marc-Andre Fleury at 14:17 of the first period to give the Devils a 1-0 lead.
Patrik Elias and Scott Gomez assisted by Rafalski's first goal of the
season.
The first period ended with the Devils leading the Penguins,
1-0. The Devils outshot the Penguins 12-6 in the period.
Martin Straka beat Brodeur with only 7 seconds remaining in the
second period, to tie the game, 1-1. The Devils again outshot the Pens,
by a wide margin, this time 14-8 in the period.
At 12:40 of the third period, Brian Gionta was credited with a
goal deflected off his skate (no kicking motion), in past Fleury.
Gionta's first goal of the season was assisted by Scott Gomez and Patrik
Elias.
The game ended with the Devils winning by a final score of 2-1.
The Devils outshot the Penguins, 8-4 in the third period, and 34-18 in
the game.
