March 30, 2004 Game 80: Devils Pound Rangers 5-0, Lead Atlantic
The New Jersey Devils smacked the lowly Rangers around, beating
them 5-0 at home on Tuesday, March 30, 2004. Martin Brodeur recorded the
75th shutout of his career (11th of the season) and the Devils took the
Atlantic division lead (the Flyers have 1 game in hand).
Here are a few of my pictures
from the game.
The Devils outshot the Rangers 11-7 in the first period, but
neither team could score on their opponents' netminder.
Scott Gomez beat Stephen Valiquette 6:40 into the second period
with a power-play goal to give the Devils a 1-0 lead. Patrik Elias and
Raymond Giroux assisted on Gomez's 13th goal of the season.
Erik Rasmussen beat Valiquette at 11:33 to increase the Devils
lead to 2 goals. Jan Hrdina and Jamie Langenbrunner assisted on
Rasmussen's 5th goal of the season.
Scott Gomez scored his second goal of the period on the
power-play with 2:23 remaining in the second. Scott Niedermayer and
Patrik Elias assisted on the goal.
The second period ended with the Devils leading the Rangers,
3-0. The Rangers outshot the Devils 10-8 in the period.
Igor Larionov scored his first goal of the season (and first as
a Devil) at 4:26 of the third period. Turner Stevenson and Colin White
assisted on the goal.
Erik Rasmussen capped the scoring with his second goal of the
game, at 10:14 of the third. Jan Hrdina and Jamie Langenbrunner assisted
on the Devils 5th goal of the game.
The game ended with the Devils winning, 5-0. The Devils
outshot the Rangers 13-7 in the third period and 32-24 in the game. New
Jersey was 2 for 3 on the power-play; while the Rangers had no power-play
opportunities. The Devils also won 65% of the faceoffs.
Jamie Langenbrunner led all skaters with 6 shots on goal.
The win was the 500th of Pat Burns' career.
With the victory, the Devils win the season series, 4-1-1.
